We live in a world made up of ideas. We have however conditioned ourselves to an insatiable desire for them at a cost. We have sought their industrious production, but set aside the rationale of consequences. We have emphasised their inception and birth, and have overlooked the need of raising them in the right environments. We have toiled over their nature but neglected their nurture. We have been consumed in discoursing their superiority or inferiority to others, and haven’t yet set the par of purpose for their existence.
We live in a world of ideas, that is far from ideal.
What we perhaps need to do, is to look at this world of ideas through the filter of Values. Values are like ideas, but they don’t age, wither or die. They are instead reshaped, reformed, reborn. They underline, qualify and civilise the need and practice of ideas. Values give ideas a human face.
Rhodes, like all places rich with history at the crossroads of civilisations, has been a territory ripe for ideas turned values. During TEDxRhodes, both organisers and speakers, will attempt to impart a dialogue qualified with the meaning of values, as the best ideas worth spreading!
